What really is a candle?
By Laureen Penrod of Penrods Homemade Gifts
A candle is a lovely home decorartion. It can be defined as a smelly substance or a unique item. For my purpose there's plenty more definitions. In my eyes a candle is a break from life. I can come home light one up and I'm in a relaxing atmosphere with my favorite scent, it's like I've invented my own different place that only I can be at. There shouldn't be any fear in lighting a candle. Did you know that oil companies make a profit from candles? After they filter out what they need from oil, they have this black icky substance left over that they bleach at least 5 times to get it somewhat looking white then make a candle out of it. This kind of candle is known as Parrafin. It's derived from petrolium, and has toxic vapors. When you burn it it produces this black soot that's bad for the walls of your house, your lungs and and your clothing;if it gets spilled. On top of all this it has to be blended with other chemicals to release fragrances. So by the time the candle has taken its course it has destroyed the atmosphere around it. I have found a better solution to candle making and candles in particular. It's called a soy candle. They're derived from vegetables, 100% non-toxic, biodegradable with 95% less soot, cleans up easily with soap and water, burns 25 - 50% longer than parrafin, releases fragrances naturally;faster and longer, and on top of everything else it supports the American Farmer. Which is exactly what my country needs. So what exactly is the better choice parrafin or soy candles? Now when I burn a candle I feel confident that it's good for me as well.
